Description

1923 Levis Popular 247ccA rare opportunity to own a beautifully presented 1923 Levis Popular, with the original frame and engine it was registered with, 103 years ago. A true pioneer-era British motorcycle, representing one of the most successful lightweight machines of the early 1920s. This example is an honest and characterful machine, ideal for both riding and display. These early Levis models are renowned for their simplicity, reliability, and surprisingly capable performance for their era. I bought the bike from a well know vintage motorcycle dealer 8 years ago and it is has not let me down once. In 1923, a lot of things were optional extras, including a gear box believe it or not. This bike was not spec’d with a gear box, so is single speed bump start only. The bike is a fantastic runner and pulls a lot of attention at local bike and vehicle meets. A true light weight machine, so very easy to handle. Bike is being sold as the photos show. Levis – A Winning Name in Early Motorcycling. Founded in Birmingham in 1911, Levis quickly became one of Britain’s leading manufacturers of lightweight two-stroke motorcycles. Their machines gained a reputation for innovation, performance, and reliability. In the early 1920s, Levis achieved significant racing success at the legendary Isle of Man TT:1920 – Victory in the Lightweight 250cc class 1922 – Winner of the Lightweight TT This means Levis secured 2 Isle of Man TT wins in the early 1920s, firmly establishing their reputation as “The Master Two Stroke.” So proud of this, they had it embossed in the engine casings. Their success on the track directly influenced the design and popularity of road-going machines like this 247cc Popular model. Event Eligibility:This motorcycle will be eligible for a wide range of prestigious vintage and veteran events, like:VMCC (Vintage Motor Cycle Club) runs and ralliesBanbury RunPioneer Run (subject to eligibility criteria)Isle of Man Classic / Manx Grand Prix parade lapsVarious pre-1930 and girder fork/ classic lightweight eventsAn ideal machine for someone looking to actively participate in historic motorcycling, not just display it.
