Some projects are worth saving, and this 1977 Maserati Merak SS is one of them.
Imported from Japan to the UK in 2017 with all duties paid, this beautiful and increasingly sought-after classic has benefitted from significant investment, with over £30, 000 spent during our ownership alone. The car has undergone a full respray along with numerous additional refurbishment works aimed at bringing it back to its former glory.
One of the standout features of this car is the extensive documentation. In 2018, a full Maserati factory information pack was commissioned, which includes the car's original build details and even a copy of the original order specification showing the factory options and extras chosen when the car was new. It's a fantastic piece of history and adds real provenance to the car.
Unfortunately, the specialist garage entrusted with reassembling the vehicle ceased trading before the project was completed. During this process, the hydraulic pump system was lost, meaning a replacement system will need to be sourced by the next owner. As such, the car is being offered as an unfinished project, presenting a rare opportunity for a Maserati enthusiast or specialist to complete the restoration to their own standards.
This was always intended to be a long-term keeper and the car we've dreamed of enjoying once finished. However, we're currently building our dream home and have made the difficult decision to let someone else take this project over and bring it across the finish line.

The Merak SS sits in that sweet spot of Italian exotic motoring, carrying the unmistakable styling of the era and a character that's impossible to replicate in modern cars. It has all the drama, presence and pedigree you'd expect from a classic Maserati, but without being something you see at every classic car event.
My favourite thing about the car is knowing just how much potential it still has.
We're only letting it go because we're building our dream home and need to redirect funds into that project. Otherwise, this would have remained firmly in our collection.
