1978 Chevrolet Corvette Silver Anniversary – Rebuilt L82 350 V8 – Extensive Mechanical Restoration
Offered for sale is this 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Silver Anniversary, a well-maintained and extensively rebuilt example that has benefited from significant mechanical investment over recent years. This is a genuine driver’s car that has been regularly enjoyed and driven every weekend rather than stored away as a trailer queen.
The car is powered by a rebuilt L82 350ci (5. 7-litre) V8 fitted with a performance camshaft and paired with a rebuilt 700R4 four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, which was rebuilt last year. The overdrive gearbox allows the car to cruise comfortably at just 2, 300rpm at 70mph, making it a pleasure to drive on longer journeys. The engine is fitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley carburettor, and all fluids have been recently renewed.
The suspension has been comprehensively rebuilt, including the upper and lower control arm bushes, anti-roll bar links, rear trailing arm bushes, rear control arms, wheel bearings and differential yokes. It also benefits from a composite rear leaf spring and adjustable KYB shock absorbers, giving the car a much more modern feel on the road.
The braking system has also been completely refreshed with new discs, pads, calipers and master cylinder, while the power steering ram and hoses have been replaced. The cooling system has received equal attention with a rebuilt radiator, rebuilt radiator support and a new heater core. As a result, the car runs at the correct temperature and does not overheat, even in heavy London traffic.
The chassis has been cleaned, primed and undersealed, providing excellent protection for the future. The original factory alloy wheels have been professionally mirror polished and are fitted with tyres showing approximately 80% tread remaining. The colour-coded T-top roof panels complete the classic Silver Anniversary appearance.
Inside, the interior is clean, tidy and very well presented. The original fabric seats are in excellent condition with no rips or tears, the door cards are equally tidy and the factory telescopic steering wheel remains in very good condition. A new wiper motor has also been fitted. Please note that the air conditioning was removed by a previous owner.
This Corvette drives exceptionally well, feeling tight, solid and remarkably refined for a C3. There are no clunks, squeaks or unwanted noises, and it starts, runs and drives exactly as it should. It is a reliable, usable classic that is driven regularly and enjoyed as intended.
