I have personally owned, cherished, and maintained this vehicle since 2015. It has just successfully completed an incredible, 2, 300-mile cross-continental road trip from Athens to Edinburgh with absolutely no breakdowns, zero issues, and a completely clean drive from start to finish. Good on oil, and efficient on fuel for its era.
The car is physically sitting in Edinburgh, Scotland, It is legally insured, running on its original Greek plates, and comes with a current Greek MOT (KTEO) fully valid until 2027. Comes with one ignition key and one boot key.

BODY & STRUCTURAL CONDITION
* Dry-Climate Shell Advantage: Having spent 30 years in Greece.
* Panel Work: Only a couple of tree branch pin dents across the entire car.
* Upgraded Boot Floor: The original factory cardboard boot floor liner disintegrated with age has been fully replaced with a heavy-duty, custom-cut chipboard/ OSB floor panel. It is rock-solid and handles heavy luggage effortlessly. The bare metal spare wheel well underneath remains dry and solid.
INTERIOR & LUXURY GL FEATURES
Executive Spec: Equipped with original, factory dual-airbag dashboard layout (Driver and Passenger airbags).
Premium Upholstery: Features the highly durable, original luxury GL velour/ cloth interior with factory rear headrests, all seatbelts fully working.
Brand New Headlining: The notorious 90s VW "saggy roof lining" has been fully replaced with brand new material.
Bone-Dry Footwells: Front floor wells are completely dry with the original factory carpets still present and in great condition.
POINTS TO NOTE (THE COSMETIC MAKE-OVER LIST)
To ensure absolute transparency and manage expectations, here is the honest cosmetic to-do list:
1. Paint Finish: The car needs a cosmetic respray on the bonnet (the clear coat lacquer has peeled due to the intense Mediterranean sun) and one passenger door needs repainting (has been that way since I purchased it 11 years ago, just didn't get round to painting it).
2. Minor Surface Rust: There is mild, localized cosmetic surface rust bubbling around the door frames, the window seals, and the boot seal, non structural.
3. Interior Valet: The vehicle floor carpets could do with a comprehensive wet-vac vacuum and deep clean and seats a light upholstery clean for refreshing.
4. Minor Plastics & Locks: The plastic steering column cowl cover surrounding the ignition key shroud needs fixing or replacement as the clips have aged. The central locking system itself works perfectly, but the door handles and pin linkages require some minor lubrication/ attention to make all the push buttons and electrical lock buttons drop completely smoothly.
5. Cabin Fan: The interior dashboard blower fan motor itself has been replaced but blower air flow needs attention (likely just a heater blower resistor).
SUMMARY
An honest mechanically sorted, reliable 90s classic that can be driven and enjoyed immediately while the next owner handles the light cosmetic restoration at their own leisure. It has been an absolute joy to handle and drive and only selling because of upcoming permanent UK relocation.
£2, 495Having lived with this car as my trusted companion for over eleven years, I can safely say it is one of the most reliable, durable, and smooth-running vehicles Volkswagen has ever produced. Its true value lies in its exceptional comfort and tank-like German durability. This car has lived a truly remarkable life. It has travelled the ups and downs of many Greek mountains, navigating tight hairpin bends with ease. It has wound along coastal roads, boarded ferries to splendid beaches, braved the intense stop-start traffic of central Athens, and cruised motorways on long-distance trips across provinces. The ultimate proof of its mechanical health is its most recent cross-continental journey. Setting out with no breakdown cover, I drove it 2, 300 miles from Athens to Edinburgh. It handled the entire trip without a single fault, breakdown, or drop of water lost. It was an absolute star, proving just how bulletproof this 1. 6i engine truly is. Yes, it now requires a tender loving cosmetic makeover. I have taken great care to list every minor quirk because I want this car to go to an enthusiast who will appreciate its incredible durability and reliability as much as I have, and to continue its story. It has been a total joy to own. A sad farewell, but a necessary one ahead of my upcoming permanent relocation to the UK.
