Description
1991 Vauxhall Astra Mk2 L 1. 6 Petrol 5-Door Estate – Repair Project
For sale is this 1991 Mk2 Vauxhall Astra L 1. 6 Petrol 5-door Estate.
Registered in Portsmouth on 19th January 1991, this is a genuine survivor and a very rare model now. According to How Many Left, there are currently only 9 of this model taxed.
The car displays 10435 miles, which I assume is actually 110, 435 miles based on the MOT history.
The last MOT expired on 6th January 2021. The car has been off the road since then.
There is some corrosion to the nearside rear wheel arch and the offside rear sill. The rear tailgate and offside front wing have also suffered damage and will need to be repaired or replaced.
The engine runs and the car drives and stops. I put fresh fuel in the tank and the engine started, but it will only continue running with light pressure on the throttle. It appears to be running very rich, so I suspect there is an issue with the carburettor which is preventing it from idling on its own. I’ve run the engine for approximately 10 minutes and got it up to temperature.
I bought the car with the intention of repairing it, but with little to no mechanical or welding/ fabrication experience, I’ve underestimated what it will take to get it back on the road. It’s currently kept on my driveway and I don’t have a garage or unit where I can store it and work on it over the coming autumn and winter, so I’ve decided to sell it to someone with the skills and facilities to take on the work and get this rare Astra back on the road.
I have the V5C in my name and the car has 7 previous keepers. There are 2 keys with the car. The car also has some service history.
I’ve included photographs of the underside, but I have not had the car on a ramp or carried out a full inspection underneath. I therefore cannot comment on the condition of the chassis, floor, sills, suspension mounting points or other areas beyond what is visible in the photographs.
This is a genuine repair/ restoration project and will require welding, mechanical and bodywork, as well as time and money to put back on the road. It will need to be recovered or trailered away as it is currently SORN and has no valid MOT.
I also have a 1988 Mk2 Astra L 1. 6 Diesel Estate for sale, which is being advertised separately. It’s an exceptionally rare diesel model, so there is an opportunity to purchase two increasingly rare Mk2 Astra Estates.
