Description
The car has been used as a daily driver this summer and has been 100% reliable. Body: The underneath of the car is rock solid. There is some minor bubbling to a few of the panels but the panels themselves are solid. There are a few dents and scratches as you would expect for a car of this age. See pictures. Engine: The coolant was recently flushed and system pressure tested - all ok. A new cam cover gasket was also recently installed and is no longer leaking. The car pulls like a train above 2500 rpm and cruises on the motorway beautifully. I recently did a 600 mile round trip without issue. A manual choke conversion was recently installed. The car idles fine but is lumpy at lower revs up to 2000 rpm. I have been informed by a local expert that this is likely the valve clearance / shims which will need adjusting. It doesn't really detract from the overall usability of the car but I want to be transparent as you do notice it at low revs. As said above, all fine above 2000rpm and cruises very well. Gearbox: Working fine. New master cylinder fitted and changes gear very smoothly. Overdrive kicks in and out well. Interior: The interior is good. Wood on dash is fine and seats have a nice patina. The Daimler steering wheel was fitted by a previous owner when he sold it - it hasn't bothered me but I have a Jag badge somewhere to change it. All electric windows work. All gauges work, sav the oil pressure which seems stuck in the max reading position. The oil pressure appeared fine (it was reading 40 psi at operating speeds when warm before the gauge went funny). I suspect a sender or electric issue. Both fuel tanks are working and the car, with the manual box, is actually quite economical - over 300 miles using both tanks. The changeover switch on the dashboard also works fine. The alloys are in good condition as the chrome is reasonable. Manual gearbox XJ6s are rare and it really brings out the sporting element with these cars. It handles superbly and the vinyl roof and red colour adds to the sporting appeal. I have never owned a classic which gets as many compliments. This is a car which can be used and enjoyed now and is very reliable. I am only selling due to house move and losing space.
