(originally manufactured with a 1250cc XPAG engine) This is a truly beautiful MG TD, presented in good condition and with a fascinating 74-year history. This exceptional classic has been loved, cared for and maintained as part of a collection of classic cars and bikes for over 50 years by the late renowned Welsh artist John Les of Glan Conwy, father of TV's Salvage Hunters star Drew Pritchard. We have recently found out that that the car was owned from new by a Mr Scott. A picture of him with this car is available on the website ttypes. org: Microsoft Word - TTT2 Issue 53. (page 23) It was the purchased by John in the late 1950’s, who owned and cared for it until his death a few years ago. It then passed to his son (a friend of mine), who, in turn sold it to me. So has only had 3 previous owners. I have known this car for over 40 years. New leather upholstery was put in around 12yrs ago, along with a hood and side screens. It also comes with a new and unused tonneau cover. This has had the wire wheels and Brooklyn screens added at some point as they aren’t in the original 1950’s photo. Also a fuel pump cut off key for security. Unfortunately, the history has been lost, but I do have the original owner's manual and other booklets. The car has benefited from years of care and attention and presents very well. The bodywork is in good condition; the paintwork does have chips and scratches as to be expected. Following on from the successful TC, the MG TD arrived in 1949, introducing some much-needed post-war refinements. Sharper handling and smoother riding than its T-series predecessors, the newcomer drew considerable praise from the contemporary press. Powered by a twin-carb four-cylinder XPAG 1, 250cc engine allied to four-speed manual transmission, the 54bhp TD was capable of 80mph and 26mpg. Great fun to drive, the TD had a quirky mixture of a vintage body and ‘50s styling cues and sold extremely well until it was replaced in 1953 by the MG TF. Some 30, 000 TDs were made in total with all but 1, 656 exported, the vast majority being sold to US customers. Highlights of this car.
