1987 VW JETTA GTI 8V With less than 14k miles
Welcome to the advert of one of the most rare 80’s VW’s, this less than 100 Jetta GTI’s left according to the ‘How Many Left’ website.
This particular car is a rare find , it’s effectively a one owner car , it’s been registered at the same address from new , the V5 matches up with the service book, as the V5 shows 2 previous owners it looks like it’s been passed back and forth between family members.
The car was registered on 01/ 10/ 1987 and was used sparingly.
The owner was clearly an enthusiast, as the service book details what was done on particular dates and mileages including spark plug part numbers , oil grades and brands , there’s even a not saying the Jetex sports exhaust was fitted at 2200 miles.
With the service book there is a few notes detailing the Jetex exhaust , Scrick cam shaft and K&N filter installation dates, mileage and even before and after MPG.
Looking through the paper work there are various invoices, notes with VW part numbers for certain upgrades such as headlamp washers etc but these clearly never made it on to the car . There’s even a hand written map and ‘Concourse Show Pass for 2004 Stonor Park VW Show’.
The car was clearly loved and was well kept up to its 13800 miles but since 2006 it’s been unused.
This year the car was inspected and recommissioned, we were amazed how good the car is, I have been around mk2 golf’s all my adult life and this is by far the best. It’s amazing how original it is , there isn’t a spot of rust in the arches, the sills, jacking points etc are the best I have seen. During the recommissioning process we have done the following:
•Replaced timing belt and water pump
•Full Service
•New fuel pump
•New injectors
•Reconditioned warm up regulator
•New discs and pads all around
•Wheel refurbishment
•New uniroyal tyres
•New wheel bearings
The car itself is in fantastic condition, free from dents and damage , retains its original features even still has the original headlining that’s still intact.
Inside is where the car really shows its low miles and originality , the steering wheel is free from wear as are the seats , the seats have no wear and are still firm. The dashboard is in beautiful condition, the stereo works and is period correct . Most Mk2 golfs/ jettas have well over 100k miles because they were such good reliable cars that they just got used , most GTIs have had multiple owners patchy history and modified (I’m not saying that’s a bad thing and I’m a big fan of them) it’s so rare to find a genuine low mileage low owner mk2 GTI , I think this could be 1 of 1!
Driving the car is an absolute pleasure , plenty of torque from the 1. 8 8v K Jet , precise gear change (again rare). Comfortable compliant suspension and direct steering .
