Description
1993 Land Rover Defender 90 – 300Tdi
Spent over £16, 000 in maintenance and upgrades.
Good points:
Brand new Richards Chassis, Gwyn Lewis bush kit, brake lines, brake master cylinder and under door sills replaced (over £9, 000 repair bill).
Engine: Brand new head gasket, water pump, timing belt, heavy duty clutch, thermostat, EGR delete, boost ring and pin, snorkel and associated pipework. Pipercross air filter and DPF removed (straight pipe, still passes an MOT no bother). Brand new steel fuel tank.
Scorpion CAT 5 tracker installed for insurance purposes.
4x brand new Alive Tuning standard height comfort springs, performance damper kit, heavy duty turrets (£1, 200).
Fully noise dampened and new black carpets. Headliner finished in faux black suede. Kenwood DAB radio. Alpine 8-inch subwoofer (under cubby) and Kicker 4" speakers.
5x black powder coated steels wrapped in 285/ 75R16 General Grabber AT2 tyres. Steering swivel seals replaced. Cabin heater matrix and fan replaced. Chequer plate side skirts and steps. Sump guard fitted. Standard front bumper with panoramic rear windows. New windscreen and all window seals replaced. All door seals replaced.
Bad points:
Surface corrosion on bulkhead below driver's vent. I've filled this with clear silicone and it's watertight. Will likely need to be replaced in a few years but got through its MOT no problem with the new chassis. Engine swap so unsure of engine mileage, done everything I can to ensure reliability. Traditional Defender oil leak (very slight).
Reluctantly up for sale — with two little ones now, there's just no practical way to fit them both in alongside the Defender's setup, so it's time for it to find a new home where it'll get used properly again. This Defender has been my pride and joy, a trusted companion on countless adventures, and parting with it is bittersweet — but family comes first. This iconic 4x4 is the ultimate mix of rugged off-road capability and refined everyday drivability, built to handle any terrain with ease while still offering a surprisingly smooth ride.
Test drives are welcome (with proof of insurance); if you're not insured, I'll happily take you for a spin to experience it yourself.
This Defender is ready for a new family to make memories and create adventures.
