2001 Jaguar XJ Sovereign 4. 0 V8 Automatic
111, 478 miles | Three recorded keepers | 128-page documented history | 2 sets of keys and a valet key | Two consecutive no-advisory MOTs | TJR 51S included.
Finished in silver with the traditional Oatmeal and Antelope leather interior and burr walnut veneer. At its MOT had covered 111, 478 miles, has had only three recorded keepers and comes with an unusually comprehensive record of 128 pages of service history.
For me, the strongest part of the car is not simply how it looks today, but how much of its history can actually be accounted for.
All service records have been compiled into a 128-page digital history archive, as well as the original physical documentation which will come with the car.
It includes:
• Original purchase documentation
• Jaguar main-dealer service and maintenance invoices
• Independent garage invoices
• MOT certificates and emissions records
• Historic registration documentation
• Bodyshop and repair documentation
• Previous sales paperwork
• Service-book and handbook material
• Supporting invoices for work carried out over the years
The mileage progression is well documented and accurate throughout the MOT and service history.
The car has covered relatively little mileage in its later life, and the paperwork gives the next owner the opportunity to see what has actually been done rather than having to rely on a few service stamps and somebody's recollection.
Since January 2025 I have taken the approach that, if something mechanical has needed attention, it has been dealt with rather than knowingly deferred.
Work during my ownership has included:
• Ignition coil packs
• Spark plugs
• Two front shock absorbers
• Anti-roll-bar components
• Two inner track rods
• Engine oil and filters
• Fuel filter
• Replacement fuel pump
• Replacement relays
• Air-conditioning re-gas
• Wheel balancing
• Partial underside protection/ underseal
• Replacement headlining
• Minor welding/ rectification work
• Door-trim refitting
• Rear-subframe inspection
• Specialist fuel-system diagnosis and repair
• General servicing and MOT preparation
MOT
The Jaguar has passed both MOTs during my ownership without advisories. The latest was completed in August 2026 at 111, 478 miles, with the current certificate running until 2 September 2027.
For a 25-year-old XJ308, I think the combination of the recent work, consecutive clean MOTs and supporting paperwork is considerably more useful than simply being told that a car has been “well maintained”.
The interior is one of my favourite parts of the car. It retains the proper Sovereign combination of Oatmeal and Antelope leather with extensive burr walnut veneer.
The walnut has survived particularly well and remains in near perfect condition and free from the deterioration. The headlining has been recently replaced. The leather is also very presentable. There are no rips or significant damage to the seats, with only the sort of age related wear to the driver's seat that you would reasonably expect.
The platinum silver suits the shape of the XJ308 extremely well and the car has very good road presence. It retains its original style Jaguar alloy wheels and the tyres currently have approximately 7 mm of tread.
The car is now 25 years old, so I am not claiming that it is an untouched concourse example. What I would say is that it presents extremely well and photographs honestly.
The extensive history file records the car's earlier life, including its Cat C (financial write off, 2011) insurance/ body repair history (fully documented with 15 MOTs since.). I have deliberately retained that information rather than trying to sanitise the history, and anyone seriously interested in the car is welcome to examine the full documentation before deciding whether it is the right car for them.
The Jaguar comes with:
• Two main keys and alarm fobs
• Valet key
• Jaguar manuals
• Service-book material
• Physical history folders
• 128-page digital history archive
TJR 51S
The personalised registration TJR 51S is included with the car.
It has recently been valued by Regtransfers at £2, 000, and I have the valuation documentation to accompany it.
This plate has sat on this car since its purchase, sits well and forms a meaningful part of the overall package.
For Sale at £5995 including the private registration TJR 51S.
The car is available to view and I would encourage any genuinely interested buyer to spend some time looking over both the car and its history.
A note from the seller
I bought this Jaguar in January 2025, to restore, partly to help keep my Uncle mentally active while he was in a hospice.
He was very much from the era of the Swinging Sixties and had always loved his silver suits. I asked him one day if there was anything he'd always wanted but had never got around to having. His answer was simple:
“I've always wanted a silver Jaguar.”
So, after some research, I bought this one.
I knew when I bought her that there were some faults that needed addressing, and I gave my Uncle the job of helping me find parts and garages to get the work done and bring the car up to the condition she deserved. It gave us something to talk about and something for him to get involved with.
We even joked about him becoming a chauffeur and using the Jaguar for weddings once we'd finished her.
Unfortunately, he passed away soon afterwards.
In his memory, I decided to carry on with what we'd started. I've completed the work we originally identified — and considerably more besides.
During my ownership I have not knowingly ignored or deferred anything mechanical the car has needed. If something required attention, it was dealt with.
I hope that approach is apparent not only from the condition of the car today, but from the invoices and extensive history that accompany her.
She has passed both MOTs during my ownership with no advisories.
I'm not selling her as a perfect or untouched 25-year-old Jaguar. Her history is there for the next owner to see, and I've tried to be completely open about it.
What I am selling is a Jaguar that has meant rather more to me than simply being another old car.
I've enjoyed owning her, I've enjoyed finishing what my Uncle and I started, and I'm confident that the next owner will enjoy her just as much.
