Overview
Let’s face it – we’ve all harboured dreams of being a racing driver. It’s arguably the coolest job in the world. But how would you feel if you were given a real-life racing car that you could drive to work and back? Or at least drive on the road, as we reckon the novelty of the daily commute could wear off a bit with this one.
As a road car, the Hyundai i30N is pretty special. It has the DNA of an old-school hot hatch, and was developed on some of the most demanding racetracks in the world, including the (in)famous Nürburgring. This one, though, was built to race.
It was professionally constructed from a brand-new car in January 2019 to Campeonato de España de Turismos (CET) Regulations at a cost of approximately EUR 100, 000 by ART Motorsport for their driver to compete in the 2019 Spanish Touring Car Championship, running to a Balance of Power (BOP) regulation of 350bhp and 1, 260kg.
The car only did 4 races in the 2019 CET before the regulations were changed and the CET category was cancelled.
The car did 2 races at Navarra Circuit (6th and 7th April 2019) and 2 races at Motorland Aragon (24th and 25th May 2019) before the CET category was scrapped. As such, it has covered just 2, 526km (1, 570 miles) from new.
The car was imported by the current (and only) UK owner in late 2019 with a view to competing in Time Attack, but this was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the next couple of years, work was carried out to make the vehicle road legal in the UK. The work involved fitting headlights, DRL's, a miles-per-hour speedo, handbrake system and fog lights, and required a lot of help from Hyundai UK. The car was issued with a V5 and number plates in October 2021.
The current owner has only used the car twice (two track days in 2022, including driving to and from the circuit) in the last 7 years, with the car sitting in professional storage for the rest of the time.

1. Endurance & Touring Car Series (Spain & Portugal)
Campeonato de España de Resistencia (CER): Run by V-Line Org, this is the logical home for the car in Spain. It is highly competitive in the touring car classes (typically Class 2 / Division 3 or 4) depending on the Balance of Performance (BoP).
Supercars Endurance (Iberian Series): A joint Spanish and Portuguese championship allowing various touring cars and GT4s to share the grid in distinct multi-class splits.
2. Club Racing & Multi-Class Touring Cars (UK)
750 Motor Club (Club Enduro / Roadcars): The car fits perfectly into Class A (under 300 bhp/ ton) or the Hot Hatch championship.
British Endurance Championship (BEC) / Britcar: Highly accommodating of ex-homologation and unique spec builds in their lower touring car tiers.
Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) New Millennium Series: An open series catering specifically to post-2000 turbo and high-capacity cars running on control or track-day tyres.
3. European & International Series
Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS / VLN): Eligible for the production-based turbo classes (such as VT2 or SP3T depending on specific engine and safety preparation updates).
Dutch Supercar Challenge: An accessible, high-profile Benelux series with a dedicated "Supersport" division well-suited to (350bhp) front-wheel-drive touring cars.
4. Sprint & Time Attack
National Time Attack Championships: Because it retains its factory production chassis but features massive performance upgrades (350bhp engine, racing suspension, AP brakes), it should be highly competitive in the "Club Pro" or "Pocket Rocket" classes of series like UK Time Attack.

Summary
If you want a race car or track car that you can drive from one event to the next, then this is a great option – according to the vendor, it even has good road manners, but don’t expect it to be especially refined… Besides, that’s half the fun!
What it is, though, is a professionally built race car that can be driven to and from any circuit in the UK and Europe. It cost over 100, 000 Euros to build in 2019 and has been converted back to its road legal status at great expense and with attention to detail. It’s a rare and exciting machine…
