Description
Genuine C5 in proper condition, not a tired one. I've owned it coming up to a year and I'm being completely upfront below about what it needs, because there's nothing here that stops you driving it home today and using it.
The engine and drivetrain
* 5. 7 litre LS1 V8, all-aluminium, 345bhp and 350lb-ft
* 4L60E four-speed automatic, rear-mounted transaxle so the weight distribution is near enough 50/ 50
* Around 5 seconds to 60, and it'll pull from nothing in any gear
* Runs perfectly happily on standard pump petrol, no need for super unleaded
* Being a 1999 car it sits in the older tax band, and insurance has been far more reasonable than people expect
Recent work done
* Harmonic balancer replaced (known weak point on these, so it's a big one out of the way)
* Power steering pump
* Pulley, tensioner and belt
* Spare gearbox filter included with the car
History and paperwork
Near perfect MOT history. Comes with a stack of paperwork showing the car's provenance. It was never driven in the States, it went straight out to the UAE from new and came over here from there, so it's avoided the salted winter roads that finish a lot of imports off. There's also a pile of Corvette magazines that go with it.
What it needs, honestly
* TPMS has a fault I haven't got to the bottom of. No effect on driving at all, all four tyres have plenty of tread and all hold air fine.
* Small leak around the top trim of the targa. I've already bought the replacement rubber for it, shipped in from America at £800, and I've got the invoice to prove it. That comes with the car.
* One headlight doesn't pop up on its own, you have to wind it up and down by hand. The electrics for the light itself are fine and the other side works perfectly, so it looks to be nothing more than a worn motor.
Bodywork is otherwise pretty much immaculate.
Why I'm selling
Nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't suit how I drive. It still makes me grin every time I fire it up and go out in it, but I'm more of a JDM person at heart and that's where I want my money sat.
Price
£15, 500 and I'm open to sensible offers. Tidy C5s like this regularly go for £17 to £18k once the small jobs are sorted, so there's room in it for whoever takes it on, and you can drive and enjoy it exactly as it is in the meantime.
Happy to look at swaps for a WRX STi or an Evo. I'll put cash on top if the car's right.
There really aren't many of these left on UK roads in this sort of nick. Bits to tidy, yes, but it's a gem underneath and I've not hidden anything.
