1966 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside 5. 7 V8 Long Bed with airbags on the rear in white/ rust
Brought this truck from the guy who imported it from Seattle and I have all the documentation from when it was imported along with a few invoices. It’s got a Chevrolet 5. 7 350 V8 engine from a 1994/ 95 Silverado on a TBI attached to a 3 speed automatic box. The engine has great oil pressure and pulls so nicely. It has power steering and power brakes so it stops and steers really well.
I completely rebuilt the wooden bed as it had rotted out, I built it out of 38mm brand new scaffolding boards and routed out the correct areas so as to keep the bed height correct. I painted the underside of the wooden and treated the bed with a sealing oil. I spent a long long time rebuilding the bed and cleaned the chassis while it was all off. I reused all the bed strips and then added round flat bar on the edge pieces to finish it off.
It has airbags fitted to the rear but not the slamming type of airbags but ones for heavier loads. It does loose pressure over time but other than that it rides great.
The interior was redone a couple of years ago by the previous owner and is still in great condition as you can see from the photos. It has 2 inertia belts and 1 lap belt.
I serviced the engine and gearbox around 3000/ 4000 miles ago with new spark plugs as well. The engine is so sweet and starts every time even in cold weather. I’ve done a couple long trips in it and it was faultless but I’ve mostly used it to drive to work occasionally and to car shows and little trips with my daughter. I’ve just fitted new wiper blades a month or so ago.
Couple of bad points, the radio doesn’t work because it’s not wired in, there was a lovely blue modern piece of crap fitted so I fitted a 1970’s one to get the looks and use a speaker if I want music. The fuel is pretty inaccurate but does work. It has a few rust holes but generally the body is in great condition and the chassis is completely rot free. The screen washers don’t work and I think this is just a motor but I haven’t looked into it so that’s just a guess. Passenger side outside door lock doesn’t work but locks from the inside again I haven’t looked into to why and could be something very simple.
I genuinely love this truck and is my first American car and I was so surprised at how easy this thing is to drive. I’m very sad to see it go but with the arrival of another small baby and other family commitments and the fact I just don’t really use it much at all so it has to go.
