The European-specification C5s sold in 2002–04 were equipped with the Z51 package as standard, whereas many UK C5s are US imports and may have different specifications (easy to tell if it's a US import as they won't have the foglights on the rear bumper).
• MAINTENANCE:
The known C5 problem areas have already been addressed, making this a particularly reassuring example for someone looking for a C5 to enjoy rather than spend the first year sorting out.
• Harmonic Balancer
Replaced with a genuine GM part by TopCats Racing around 2015. The car currently has no visible harmonic-balancer wobble; see the accompanying video.
• Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS)
Replaced by TopCats Racing around 2018. This is a known C5 failure point which can result in the electronic stability system being disabled.
• Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
The solder joints in the EBCM were professionally re-soldered in 2010 to address the known dry-joint issue.
• Column Lock / VATS
A column-lock bypass module was fitted in 2009. This addresses the known C5 issue where the electrically operated steering column lock can fail to engage or retract correctly.
• CONDITION:
The interior is exceptionally clean and presents almost like new.
The exterior is also in very good overall condition for a 25-year-old car, although it is not a concours example and does have some age-related marks and signs of use.
The Electron Blue paintwork looks fantastic, and the two different targa tops the car comes with give it two completely different looks (I like the look with the smoked plexiglass most).
• OWNERSHIP:
I've driven the car extensively over the last year rather than keeping it as a garage queen, almost 10, 000 miles including long European trips, and it has never missed a beat.
On motorway journeys it can return around 30 mpg, which makes it surprisingly usable as a long-distance GT despite the 5. 7-litre V8.
• REASON FOR SALE:
Very simply, I've realised that I'd prefer a manual sports car, so I'm reluctantly putting this one up for sale as it's automatic.
The asking price is slightly above other C5, but is justified by year, condition, Z51 package, history, maintenance, sorted problems, two targa tops, low mileage and Android head unit.
A great opportunity for someone looking for a particularly well-sorted C5 rather than simply the cheapest example available.
