Description
Offered for sale is a classic 1957 Austin A35 fitted with the reliable 948cc A-Series engine. Recently featured in the Mathewsons classic car auction, this charming little saloon presents a fantastic project or entry into classic car ownership at an accessible price point. This car should be treated as a project car, as the rear brakes need calipers, a mudget rear axle would need to be swapped. The car has front discs upgrade, and a SU HS2 or 4 would be needed with a moggy minor manifold to fit the vacuum servo pipe. These are available used for £50 each. The battery has been removed to the boot.
This is an ideal starter for an Acadamy Race Car if so desired. New exhaust, underneath extremely clean. Tyres as new.
What makes this A35 so special is its pure simplicity and undeniable British charm. I originally bought it after seeing it listed at Mathewsons as a classic that is wonderfully honest and full of character. It stands out because it retains all that authentic, unpretentious late-1950s personality—from the cheerful rounded body lines to the classic dashboard setup.
My favourite thing about this car is just how accessible and rewarding it is. With the bulletproof 948cc A-Series engine under the bonnet, parts are cheap, simple to find, and exceptionally easy to work on in a home garage. It’s the kind of classic that puts a smile on your face every time you open the garage door, whether you want an achievable rolling project, a weekend tinkerer, or a budget-friendly entry into the classic car community.
