Equipped with a 2. 4-litre flat-six engine (actually 2, 341 cc), it developed 190 bhp thanks to Bosch mechanical fuel injection, enabling it to reach a top speed of 230 km/ h. This generation marked a technical turning point, notably with the five-speed 915 transmission, inspired by the Porsche 908 racing model, which simplified the clutch compared with earlier versions. The E series also introduced a controversial new feature: an oil tank located behind the passenger door, which led to frequent errors when filling up. The 911 S 2. 4L excelled on the racetrack, with a redesigned suspension and improved stability thanks to a small front spoiler. In 'ST' trim, it has won prestigious races such as the 6 Hours of Daytona and the Targa Florio.
