Description
Veitura is offering for sale this magnificent 1957 Mercedes 220s Ponton coupé (w180), with its 106 bhp in-line six-cylinder engine and four-speed synchronised gearbox. Only 1, 251 examples of this car were produced between 1956 and 1959. The Ponton coupé is one of the rarest of the post-war Mercedes-Benz production models. Like a Rolls-Royce, this Mercedes was entirely hand-assembled. The interior and exterior fittings are magnificent, demonstrating an exceptional quality of finish that can be seen in the thickness of the doors, the variety of chromes, the bakelite steering wheel and the quality of the leather. The interior woodwork and upholstery are sublime and well preserved. The look of this car is a perfect representation of the luxury and refinement of a certain era. This is an American version of the car, which was first imported from California to Berlin, before arriving in France. Hazard warning lights were fitted for German homologation. The paintwork and upholstery were restored in Germany at the same time. On the mechanical side, a bespoke exhaust system was recently fitted by a Mercedes garage, as was the entire braking system, which is brand new. The current owner has owned the car since 2013, and the maintenance invoices have been there since the car was purchased. The car has 31, 423 kilometres on it, and it's difficult to be sure of the mileage with a five-digit odometer. As far as the bodywork is concerned, the car is very well presented, the paintwork was redone a few years ago and the overall appearance is good. There are minor spots of oxidation on the lower right-hand side of the boot and on the rear bumper. The bonnet and boot springs are tired and would need replacing for optimal use, as would the driver's side door seal. Ct passed for sale. Cg collection and French registration. Appraised in 2016. Vehicle visible by appointment in Alsace near Furdenheim (67).
