Description

L’Atelier des 1000 has the pleasure of presenting today an exceptional car, almost mythical: the Caterham HPC Cosworth BDR 1. 7L 212 bhp, 1 of only 62 produced, in its Vintage Green livery, with red leather interior.

Produced in 1990 on Series 3 chassis, this highly exclusive version embodies the pure Caterham spirit: lightness, performance and uncompromising character.

Designed for connoisseurs, the HPC Cosworth BDR required at the time not only a substantial financial investment, but also to pass a High Performance Course driving course. It represented the pinnacle of the Seven range, both in terms of price and sensations.

It is distinguished by a unique setup: 1. 7L BDR Cosworth engine, Dry Sump feed, limited-slip differential, 5-speed manual gearbox. The whole is mounted on the Series 3 chassis, with original front suspension, De Dion rear suspension, upgraded brakes, stainless steel exhaust and “Track Day” roll-bar.

Our example, Chassis No 5LC5005HPRD, engine BDR188, has 24, 000 miles on the clock. It benefited from a visit to the race car preparer Connaught Competition Engines in 2006 to reach 212hp.

The engine runs wonderfully, starts without difficulty or abnormal smoke. It is torque-rich and really comes alive as revs climb, turning this Caterham into a proper race car.

Thanks to its full stainless steel exhaust system, the engine breathes freely and reveals a round, authentic sound perfectly controlled.

The gearbox is solid and precise, while the reinforced clutch shows no signs of wear.

The running gear shows no play, and the original front suspension and De Dion rear suspension offer particularly precise road manners well suited to taming the power of this Seven.

Braking is strong and balanced, benefiting from a conversion to aviation-style hard lines to ensure optimal braking on circuit sessions.

The Juniper 14" wheels look superb and are shod with tyres in good condition.

Externally, the Vintage Green paintwork has a lovely even shine.

The red leather interior contrasts beautifully with the bodywork. The seats are adjustable and in good condition, the burgundy leather shows an authentic patina linked to age and exposure of the model. They are fitted with 4-point Luke harnesses.
The door panels, the centre console and interior trim are also in excellent condition.

Given the condition and exclusive configuration of this car, we are asking €44, 990. Part exchange and trade-ins considered.
