I bought this 205 GTI in April 2018 at 242, 500 km, and I began restoration thereafter. Since then, it has covered 22, 500 km and has always spent its nights in a garage over the past 7 years. Here is what has been done:
- Differential output seal
- Spark plugs
- Reconditioning of brake pistons
- Replaced rear brake regulators
- Ignition O-ring
- Reconditioning LJTRONIC injectors
- Suspension silentblocks
- Engine water temperature sensor
- Original exhaust system and catalytic converter
- Exhaust manifold
- Replaced lambda/ sensor
- Rear discs and pads
- Accelerator cable, butterfly spring
- Cleaning butterfly, MAF sensor
- Front discs and pads (at 256, 000 km)
- Indicator light switch
- Timing kit, water pump (at 256, 200 km)
- Alternator belt
- Fuel pump seal
- Oil sump seal
- Upper radiator hose
- Auxiliary belt
- Boot seal
- Battery
- Front suspension silentblocks and upper mounts (May 2025)
- Replaced all four tyres (May 2025)
- Fuel pump (July 2025)
- Bilstein B4 front dampers
Bodywork
- Complete exterior repaint
- Exterior plastic repaint
Interior
- Replaced dashboard cap, hazard triangle and coin tray
- Upholstery refurbishment (front seats: foam, green Quartet fabric and leather, rear bench: fabric)
Its minor faults which do not prevent driving, and without obligation:
- Ignition seal leak €350
- Trunk floor bent at the spare wheel mounting point – see photo. It’s not due to an accident, but a high kerb backing into the spare wheel area
- Jack foot poorly placed = dented floor
So, it’s not new, but both interior and exterior look very good, it’s reliable and a pleasure to drive, capable of tackling all distances.
