Five Things You Need to do in 2024

The end of 2023 is upon us, and while it has indeed been a good year, there is no denying that it’s always nice to look to a new year and plan on ways to make it even better than the last. But what if, in your turkey and port-filled current state, you can’t think of anything? Well, don’t fret, Car & Classic is a full service platform, and we’re here to make sure you head into 2024 with plenty of ideas buzzing around your brain. So, grab a brew, have a read and get planning.
1) Sort Those Little Jobs
Now is the time. Stop procrastinating, stop saying you’ll get to it, just do it. Remember that incredible feeling you’d get as a kid when you finished your homework? This is the grown up way to recapture it. The best bit, however, is that you couldn’t drive your homework. You can drive your classic though, so get in the garage, get the tools out, then get those little jobs sorted out. Be it something as basic as an oil change, or something more advanced, get on it. This what owning a classic is all about.
2) NEC Restoration Show
The weather is a bit all over the shop in March. Is it warm, is it cold, can you get away with wearing just a t-shirt. Nobody knows. Shows can be a real logistical nightmare, so why not head to the NEC Restoration Show on the 22nd to the 24th of March and bask in indoors consistency and constant dry. Oh, and of course, pore over thousands of cars, meet with suppliers and buy all the tools you need to finish your own restoration? It’s a brilliant show that serves to engage and enthuse, and you won’t get your feet muddy or your coat soaked. Winner.
3) Drive It Day
It’s the simplest idea, but it’s one that has been around since 2005. Drive it day. It’s the Cuprinol of classic car events. On the 21st of April, 2024, get in your classic and drive it. You choose where, you choose for how long, you choose who you take. This is about just getting out there, enjoying your classic and doing so safe in the knowledge that there are thousands of others doing so at the same time. Of course, there are meet ups as well, and you can even get a plaque for your car to wear on the day. Have a look at the website for more information.
4) Involve the Young’uns
The future of the classic car is not dependent on the car itself, but on there being a future generation to take them on and enjoy and celebrate them. So do your bit and get the kids or the grandkids involved. You don’t need to gather them around the fire and explain how to reduce valve lash. Just take them to a show, take them out in your classic, if they’re old enough, let them drive it. You don’t need to create experts, but you can sew that all important seed. Plus, this is the stuff lifelong memories are made from. So even if they don’t pick up the passion, they will build wonderful stories with you.
5) Buy a Classic
Finally, if you’ve been a long-time browser of Car & Classic, but never a buyer, now is the time. Get yourself behind the wheel of something with some age and life to it, a car with heart and soul. Live the dream. We are, as humans, here for a good time, not a long time, so don’t deprive yourself. You can find cars on our incredible Auction Platform – something to suit every taste.
