The House AI Thinks You Live in Based on Your Classic Car

What if we told you that the classic car you own (or would love to own) has the potential to unveil insights into what your ideal home would look like?

Classic cars have an undeniable, timeless charm. Whether that’s reminding us of some of our most beloved childhood memories or bringing scenes from our favourite TV shows and films to life. Of course, for the petrolheads amongst us, these cars also take us back to a time of exquisite automotive design and craftsmanship, unmatched by any other period.

From slick muscle cars to speedy sportscars, vintage cruisers and everything in between, each classic car possesses its own distinct personality. But what if we told you that the classic car you own (or would love to own) has the potential to unveil insights into what your ideal home would look like?

Well believe it or not, thanks to the wonders of AI – we can now tell you just that!

To produce these images, we used Midjourney, a generative artificial intelligence program that allows you to create various forms of AI art by simply inputting your desired prompt. For this piece, we used the prompt:

‘Imagine a house in the UK with a {classic car name} outside. Taken with a Nikon D3200.’

In this round up, we’re sharing our top picks of the output!

A Note on Accuracy in AI Image Generation

Midjourney, like most new AI content generation tools, is still very much experimental and “learning.”

What that means is that its interpretation of the cars we’ve asked it to create is not perfect. For the purists among us, this means we’ll instantly recognise when Midjourney hasn’t quite gotten something right. Perhaps a vehicle is too big or the shape isn’t quite as it should be. We know and recognise that, but thoroughly enjoyed seeing how AI interprets both the vehicles themselves and the homes that the owners may live in.

We hope you enjoy it too and, without further ado, here are our favourites.

1. Porsche 911 – London townhouse

AI generated image of Porsche 911

You could almost imagine this sophisticated London townhouse being home to a high flying London banker. Either that, or the beloved Browns family from Paddington Bear! With its large period windows and a beautifully arched, French style doorway, this is the home that an AI image generator thinks a Porsche 911 owner would have. This iconic car is ideal for those seeking a combination of luxury and sportiness. And its agile handling and compact size makes it an excellent choice for city living.

2. Morris Minor – Cosy countryside cottage

AI generated image of a Morris Minor

Nestled at the end of a peaceful country lane stands this charming white stone cottage, accompanied by its owner’s quaint Morris Minor proudly parked out front. Stepping into this idyllic scene feels like a nostalgic journey to a bygone era of tranquillity and simplicity. This inviting home, reminiscent of the Morris Minor’s charm, invites imaginative wordsmiths seeking inspiration in nature or contented older couples ready to embrace life’s simple pleasures. Together, this timeless home and classic car combination are an irresistible duo worthy of celebrating.

3. Lamborghini Gallardo – Georgian Mansion

AI generated image of a Lamborghini Gallardo

Now for something a little more fast paced: the Lamborghini Gallardo. First produced in 2003, this supercar is a little newer than the other classics on our list. But what it may lack in retro feel, it certainly makes up for in exhilaration and splendour. It should come as no surprise that our AI tool has paired this extraordinary car with an equally lavish home; a Georgian mansion. Adorned with numerous sash windows that fill its rooms with radiant light, and complemented by the verdant foliage enveloping its exterior, this truly is the Lamborghini Gallardo’s perfect match, leaving us with a harmonious blend of cutting-edge automotive craftsmanship and architectural grandeur.

4. E Type Jaguar – Period semi-detached

AI generated image of an E Type Jaguar

Standing proud outside this stylish, yet modest home is the exquisite E-Type Jaguar. Its sleek curves and timeless design pairs beautifully with the clean lines and ageless elegance of the home’s exteriors. The owner of this home and car clearly has an appreciation for the finer things in life, all whilst staying grounded and connected to those around them. Even if their choice of car does turn their neighbours green with envy!

5. Mercedes 500 – Suburban family home

AI generated image of a Mercedes 500

You can almost hear the whirring of Dad’s lawn mower, the clattering of pots and pans and the giggles of the kids as they watch TV in this suburban family home. Bustling with life, there’s never a dull moment in this household, and its sturdy brick structure and paved surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for this family’s energetic regimes. And just like the home, the family car also needs to accommodate this young family’s day-to-day lives. From the kids’ school runs, to mum and dads’ commutes and family holidays for them all, including Fido! AI believes that the owner of this comfortable, spacious Mercedes 500 would feel right at home here, where cherished memories are woven into the fabric of everyday life.

6. Morgan Plus 4 – English Tudor House

AI generated image of a Morgan Plus 4

If you said this was the backdrop for your wedding day, we’d believe you, with this joyous summer day cruiser parked out front this 20th century Tudor home. The deep red, reflective bodywork boasted by the Morgan Plus 4 juxtaposes the exterior of this traditional home. Complete with its classic white-plastered walls and black, tarred-timber frames, there’s no doubt that this the home of someone who appreciates timeless elegance and a touch of nostalgia.

7. Bentley Continental – The Exquisite Gated Home in Grounds

AI generated image of a Bentley Continental

It’s not out of the question for a classic Bentley Continental to exceed £1 million in a sale. Perhaps this is why AI has assumed that owners would be residing in a large detached home with substantial grounds and plenty of space. Afterall, Midjourney AI would agree that a Bentley owner has a taste for the finer things.

A car still in production, the Bentley Continental is an absolute masterpiece. In 2018, the now Volkswagen owned brand celebrated 80,000 units produced, but it’s the timeless classics that impress us far more than the newer models.

8. Aston Martin V8 – The Traditional, Grand British Home

AI generated image of an Aston Martin V8

Parked outside a home that wouldn’t look out of place on the Royal Windsor Estate is the Aston Martin V8. A model produced in the UK between 1969 and 1989, each handbuilt vehicle required an impressive 1,200 man hours to complete.

It’s impossible to look at the Aston Martin V8 without thinking of James Bond. So it’s perhaps fitting that AI imagines that  one should be parked outside a grand home, the type of which we wonder whether Bond himself may retire to.

9. The Dodge Coronet – The Simple 70s Home

AI generated image of a Dodge Coronet

The Dodge Coronet full size was manufactured from 1949 to 1959 and following a 6 year hiatus, the manufacturer returned to production with a mid size from 1965 to 1976. An instantly recognisable vehicle, we love the retro feel of the Coronet.

Of course, we asked AI here to show us a US manufactured car outside a home in the UK. But we think it looks very much at home outside a 70s style working family home. That said, we imagine most of us would probably rather be driving a Dodge Coronet on a sunny day in Los Angeles with the windows wound down!

10. Nissan Bluebird – The Bungalow

AI generated image of a Nissan Bluebird

AI reckons the Nissan Bluebird looks most at home on the driveway of a small British bungalow. Though with the added AI generated detail of tree residue on the bonnet, we can’t help but wonder how long it has been since the driver took this car out for a spin!

The Bluebird was significant in British car manufacturing, being the first model manufactured at Nissan’s Washington plant, just outside Sunderland. This, of course, a plant that would go on to be a significant contributor to the economy in the North East city.

The Nissan Bluebird earned its reputation as reliable and robust. Some of you may have been behind the wheel of one that’s racked up 6 figures in miles and continues to perform.

11. Willys Jeep – The Remote Farmhouse

AI generated image of a Willys Jeep

It’s perhaps no surprise that of all the classic cars we had AI create a home for, this one was the most remote. AI bets that Willys Jeep owners live rurally in houses up dirt tracks – perhaps farm houses. And it stands to reason, of course, because when it comes to off-road vehicles, few names evoke such nostalgia and sense of adventure as the Willys Jeep. This is the one classic car we just know would cope with dirt tracks in all weathers the UK has to throw at us

Manufactured primarily in the USA, this is a vehicle that still resonates with enthusiasts the world over today.

12. Bedford Rascal – The Suburban Semi Detached

AI generated image of a Bedford Rascal

The quirky charm of the Bedford Rascal is undeniable. This small commercial vehicle quickly charmed its way to icon status soon after manufacturing began in the 1980s.

AI seems to think that Bedford Rascal owners are living in suburban semi detached homes in the UK. But, to be honest, we definitely feel AI is overestimating the size of Bedford Rascals – with it generating much larger and more “campervan” style vehicles when asked to recall one.

13. Classic Fiat 500 – Victorian Terraced

AI generated image of a classic Fiat 500

AI determined that classic Fiat 500 owners would have chosen a bold colour for their car and would be living in Victorian terraced houses with on street parking.

We love the fact that the Fiat 500 has been pictured as such a bold and vibrant classic. Born in the 1950s, this iconic Italian city car didn’t take long to establish itself as a reliable, stylish, practical and elegant urban vehicle.

In the realm of classics, this remains a really affordable vehicle with a design that few would mistake for anything else.

14. Vauxhall Cavalier – The Semi Detached Bungalow

AI generated image of a Vauxhall Cavalier

AI places Vauxhall Cavalier owners most at home in a semi detached suburban bungalow with a spacious driveway and front garden. But we think the Cavalier would be at home on any driveway in the country! Afterall, this is a car that left a really profound mark on the rich tapestry of British motoring history.

From its inception in the swinging sixties to its final incarnation in the 90s, the Vauxhall Cavalier remained reliable, practical and equally charming.

15. Alvis TA14 – The Beautiful Stone Detached

AI generated image of an Alvis TA14

We think the stunning Alvis TA14 looks perfectly at home outside this traditional stone detached house that we imagine lies in a small village in England somewhere.

Despite being manufactured for just a few short years between 1946 and 1950, few cars captivate the love of enthusiasts like this one.

Elegance, sophistication and exceptional craftsmanship are all things we associate with this splendidly British piece of automotive history.

16. Peel P50 – The Tiny Terraced

AI generated image of a Peel P50

Last, but far from least, is this tiny terraced house, complete with a nectar orange doorway and home to the proud owner of this delightful sky blue Peel P50. Made in the early 1960s on the Isle of Man, just 27 of these beauties are still in existence, making them one of the rarest cars ever produced. Just like the P50, this enchanting tiny house exemplifies the timeless principle that simplicity reigns supreme and less truly is more.

So where should you live?

Were you wowed by the impressive Georgian mansion that’s right up your Lamborghini-loving street? Or were you instead, charmed by the cosy countryside cottage that’s more your cup of tea? Or perhaps these AI-assumptions were not-so accurate for you? Either way, we hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the results of our experiment as much as we loved conducting it, and that it showcases both the lasting impact of classic cars and the power of AI when it comes to creating connections between our automotive and architectural desires.
