The appeal
Ford's Model A offered buyers a more durable and practical vehicle with a conventional layout of controls. A wide range of body styles were available, including some supplied by Briggs Manufacturing, particularly known for its leatherback models.
Built in September 1928 and bodied by Briggs, this charming Model A was converted to a pick-up with a 'woodie' style rear body. It's in wonderful condition, solid and very presentable, but with just the right amount of patina to add a warm touch of character to this 95-year-old truck.
Practical and distinctive, it looks ready for work or a quieter life at classic events and outings.
History and documents
- Chassis number indicates build in September 1928

- Briggs did not offer wooden pick-ups, so this is probably a later addition

Condition

- Green felt roof with matching barrel trim to sides and rear
- Wood finish to rear with inset panels to sides and rear door
- Black paintwork in good condition, presentable, but with some light age marks visible in photos
- Wood is very well maintained but shows some minor signs of ageing such as light cracks and delamination
- Pick-up rear bed with large wooden loading area
- Underbody in good condition with no problems to report
- Chrome is well maintained, appears to be original and retains its lustre
- Black spoked wheels with matching spare tyres stored to the side
- Burgundy leather interior showing some signs of ageing but not unpleasant and adding to the patina
- Wooden dashboard in good condition with a full set of controls that appear to work
- Conventional pedal and gear lever configuration, a key feature of the Model A
- Interior chrome appears to be complete with some amateur repairs to note
