The Appeal

As well as being the main supplier of motorbikes to the British Armed Forces in the years leading up to the Second World War, Norton also produced a number of motorbikes for civilian use using the same platform. These 490 cc side-valve Nortons were marketed in 'Home' (H) versions for the British market and 'Colonial' (C) with greater ground clearance to better cope with rough roads.

This 1943 Norton 16H is a true rarity, especially in Italy. Bearing in mind its age, it is in truly excellent condition, with a fascinating patina and plenty of well-preserved original equipment. The Dunlop wheels still show the 'Made in England' mark and the Lucas electric system remains in good working order. One point to note is that the seller has informed us that it has only had one previous owner, which is very surprising for a motorbike of this era.
