The Attractions

The post-war 1900 Alfa Romeo had an understated appearance, but its success on the track reflected its illustrious DNA. The company summed up its dual personality with the slogan: 'the family car that wins races.'

It was the first Alfa Romeo available in both left- and right-hand drive. This is one of the first right-hand-drive Series 1 cars, from 1952, with a single-carburettor 1884 cc engine and a fascinating history involving a castle, a count, a politician and 40 years of garage rest.

This is a restoration project with correct serial numbers, in very solid condition and free of rust. It would be relatively easy to complete, to make it into a practical and capable classic suitable for rallies, races or even the Mille Miglia.

With its extraordinary provenance and great potential, it is a rare and attractive opportunity for the most creative collectors.

This 1952 Alfa Romeo 1900 Series 1 right-hand drive is a standard 1884 cc single carburettor model that left the factory in 1952. Its first owner, who kept it with him for most of his life, was an Italian count, an influential politician and social innovator in the 1950s and 1960s. He ordered the car with right-hand drive probably to facilitate driving on dirt roads.

The car was driven regularly until 1960 before being stored in a stable in the count's Tuscan castle for 40 years. It was discovered in January 2019, when work began on restoring it. These included 3,000 euro work on the engine that made it work again.

The car has not been started for two years, so the seller recommends some checks and a tune-up. We are told that it is complete and an easy, rust-free project.
