The Appeal
Marketed as “the race-bred luxury sports car”, the DB2 brought together the talents of David Brown’s two acquisitions - Lagonda and Aston Martin - and produced a sleek and elegant 2 seat coupe which scored 1st and 2nd in the 3 litre class at Le Mans in 1950. Key to this success was the Lagonda 2.6 litre straight six engine which, mated to a manual gearbox, provided a scintillating drive.
The road car debuted to the public at the 1950 New York International Auto Show and was an instant success with only 411 built during the model's production run (307 coupés and 102 drophead coupés). It’s thought that approximately 10% were delivered as left hand drive, which makes this a very rare car indeed.
Starting its life in the USA, this particular example has been in long term storage and will require some restoration to bring it back to its rip-roaring best. It’s accompanied by its original build sheet, the US title and European import documents and so is ready for dispatch to the European restorer of your choice. As a rare and collectible car, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
