The Appeal
One of the most iconic cars in history, the Fiat 500 continues to be a charming icon of mid-century automotive history - a cheap, compact and even rather spartan car that was particularly purpose built for the road revolution of the 50s and 60s. The result was a car that managed, across all variations, to rack up nearly four million units.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in 1960
- In current ownership since earlier this year
- Previous ownership was purportedly from 2010
- Currently indicates 57,680km
- While this can’t be verified, the vendor notes that the car’s condition indicates a low mileage
- Technical inspection has expired but will be renewed before sale
- The car’s paperwork file includes:
- Original Carti Di Circolazione
- Service record stamps from 1960 to 1982
- Current circalazione certificate
- ASI identification with photograph
- Original maintenance booklet
The Interior
- Traditionally spartan interior in original period condition
- Painted metal dashboard with cream instrument binnacle and steering wheel
- Interior metalwork is free of blisters or corrosion
- Some light marks to the interior metalwork
- Seats and door cards are in good condition with no rips or tears
- The floors are protected by rubber mats, which have some light splits
- The vendor believes that everything save for the seals is original
- The door seals were replaced in 2010 and have perished somewhat
- All switches and dials are in good working order with no issues to report
- ‘Frunk’ is clean and well-kept with ‘flat top’ fuel tank
- Original tool set is also present and correct
The Exterior
- Impressive blue paintwork, which was refreshed in 2010
- Metalwork is free of dents or dings we can spot
- The panel fit looks tight with the frunk, bonnet and doors closing well
- The car’s lenses and glasswork are in good order with no cracks or fractures
- The original Fiat branding is all present and correct
- Trims are in good condition with no faults we can spot
- The car is sat on its original wheels
- Cintgurato tyres were recently replaced
- The sills and arches are in good, solid order
- Some very light surface corrosion underneath - nothing of any concern
- For a Fiat of this period, it’s in excellent order through and through
The Mechanics
- 479cc I2 powerplant
- 4-speed manual transmission
- Braking, steering and suspension have been recently overhauled
- This is the earliest spec of the 500, and effort has been made to keep it original
- Engine bay is in excellent order with solid floors
- We’ve not been informed of any leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke
- The car is reportedly starting, running, shifting and braking as expected
Summary
This is a simply remarkable example of the Fiat 500 - with plenty of originality on display, a desirable colour scheme and a good paperwork file. With its early period features and nicely-presented interior, any Topolino aficionado should clamour for this example.
