Highlights

  • Last of the Alfa straight-six DOHC engines
  • Beautiful Sprint coupe styling
  • Fully restored no more than 2 years ago

The Appeal

The last of the Alfa Romeo double overhead camshaft straight-six engines, the Tipo 106 is an important car in the history of the brand; a turning point of such. Since then, V-shaped six- and four-pots have dominated the manufacturer’s line-up.

With its coupe body styling, the 2600 Sprint is certainly the Tipo 106 to have now. Its stunning Giulia-esque front end, long bonnet and focused interior makes for a lovely Sunday driver’s car.

This particular model spent much of its life in the United States but was recently imported to France and fully restored. Now registered for the road and presenting in stunning condition, it is ready to be picked up and enjoyed by its new owner.

The vendor points out how much of a joy this car is to drive. With a fantastic exhaust note coming from that wonderfully tuned straight-six and a satisfying gear change, it is sure to put a smile on its next owner’s face.

The Interior

  • Fully retrimmed interior
  • Exquisite interior design
  • Electric windows

Thanks to a recent restoration, the interior of this Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint presents in a wonderfully retrimmed condition. Brilliant black leather adorns the seats, door cards and dashboard with no more than a scuff mark in sight.

Fabulous grey carpets also look nice whilst the many chromed details throughout the cabin shine nicely in this otherwise dark and focused environment. Taking pride of place in this cabin is the large steering wheel that shows little to no wear whilst the gear knob protrudes nicely from the floor.

Unfortunately, the vendor has informed us that the original radio does not work. However, the car does feature electric windows, a great luxury in a car of this age. The interior lights also seems to work nicely underneath the nicely clean and secure headlining.

In the nicely trimmed boot, one will spot the recently replaced battery and toolkit.

The Exterior

  • Gorgeous Alfa Romeo Sprint design
  • Lovely silver paint looks great
  • Very clean shell throughout

If there’s one thing the Italian car makers do well, it is surely design. Externally this car is a true masterpiece. With chunky features blending nicely with the overall flowing shape and coupe profile, this 2600 Sprint is a truly recognisable car.

The passionately crafted bodywork is coated in a lovely silver paint job that reveals each curve present on the car. The flowing shape is also beautifully complimented by the many chrome details that decorate the exterior. The vendor points out that the bumpers have seen better days, with marks in places. However, the rest of the car is in seemingly very nice condition.

The Sprint’s headlights all look clean whilst the chrome details throughout appear to be present as expected.

Underneath, the car does appear to be very clean. There are certainly signs of wear and tear, but corrosion does seem to be to a minimum.

There are however some areas of corrosion on the wheels. That being said, the chrome hub caps look great. Furthermore, the car sits on a brand-new set of Michelin tyres.

The Mechanics

  • 2.6-litre straight-six, 145hp
  • Last twin overhead cam straight-six
  • Beautiful sound

Since its launch, the Tipo 106 has become a significant model in the history of Alfa Romeo. In fact, the 2.6-litre straight-six sat under the bonnet was the final double overhead cam inline six-cylinder engine from the brand.

In the Sprint’s coupe body, that powerplant puts out around 145hp, plenty for a fun Sunday drive. Thanks to that engine format, the vendor points out the sublime exhaust note, something the next owner is sure to notice from the get-go.

Elsewhere, the car reportedly drives very well with easily passing gear shifts and a well-tuned engine according to the vendor.

Unfortunately, there is little service history. However, since the restoration done in around 2021, the car has received new tyres, a full fluid service and a new battery. One can treat the restoration as a reset on the service history, with the car now in wonderful running order.

Summary

Following a total restoration in 2021, this Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint presents in fantastic condition. Lovely styling, brilliant bodywork and a paintjob to suit, it will attract attention on the open road.

But it is behind the wheel that this car shines. It offers a focused interior that has been full retrimmed and a driving experience that gets the blood pumping. A great engine note and perfectly blended mechanics are sure to put a smile on the driver’s face.
