The Appeal
Every so often, a car comes along that ticks all of the right boxes. This is one of them.
Here we have a 1965 Morris Mini Cooper S, one of the last 1071cc Cooper S cars produced. Built in August 1964, it initially served as a demonstration vehicle for Haslemere Motor Company in Guildford, and was later registered in February 1965. This highly specified Cooper S showcased desirable factory options including 4.5" wide wheels, a close-ratio gearbox, and a fresh air heater. it hails from the era of Paddy Hopkirk's rallying success and the height of the 'Swinging Sixties' for which the Mini was a totemic symbol of youth culture. Paul, John, George and Ringo all had Minis, as did Peter Sellers, Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood. This was one seriously cool car.
Following a comprehensive restoration in 2015 that included a colour change to what is believed to be Connaught Green, this Mini presents in very good condition throughout. The current owner, who acquired the vehicle in 2018, has maintained it fastidiously with servicing by marque specialists TC Juner & Son of Edinburgh and The Mini Works in East Lothian.
