The Attractions
Jaguar's acquisition of Daimler had two main objectives: to obtain more production space and to use the company's excellent 2.5-litre 'Turner' V8 engine.
William Lyons immediately fitted this powerful and elastic engine into the Mk2's body to create the Daimler 2.5-litre V8. Presented as a more exclusive and relaxed alternative to the Jaguar version, the new car was only available with an automatic gearbox until February 1967. In the final months of production of the 2.5 Litre V8 first series, buyers could also request a manual gearbox with DeNormanville overdrive.
Only 65 left-hand drive models of the 2.5 Litre V8 were built in 1967. Since the manual option was rarely chosen, this makes this car particularly special. The fact that it is the sixth since the last 2.5 Litre V8 was built further increases its appeal. It is a car in extremely original condition, with three owners and an attractive Anthracite Grey metallic body colour that is particularly well maintained. It has also benefited from an engine rebuild costing 8,000 euros, completed in 2021 and still in the run-in phase.
There are many reasons to desire this special car, in addition to its undoubtedly being one of the most coveted classic saloons of the last 60 years.

The calling card of this car is its extraordinary originality. The attractive Grigio Antracite metallic paint - surely one of the most beautiful finishes on these cars - is in excellent condition and we are told it is mostly original. The bodywork is equally well maintained, with good panel alignment, a problematic aspect to be aware of on these cars. The exterior chrome is original and shows its age in a not unpleasant way.
Inside, the grey leather interior is original and has been well maintained by the car's three owners. There are slight cracks and fading on the underside of the seats, but in a car like this this is a pleasant feature to see. The beautiful interior trim, including the extensive wood inlays, is equally well presented.
