The Appeal
The Karmann Ghia is a perfect adage for the importance of aesthetics. The second car that Volkswagen ever built, it was practically identical to the Beetle mechanically - but you wouldn’t know it. The spectacular Karmann handbuilt bodywork may well make it a candidate for one of the most beautiful mid-century cars ever built.
This example is a driver’s car through and through, having been owned and regularly used by an enthusiast for some ten years. It’s recently been re-engined, and now comes to us ready and waiting for its new owner.
The History and Paperwork

The Condition
- Impressive Karmann Ghia bodywork
- Some wear to the paintwork throughout
- This largely consists of some paint chips and blisters
- We note some wear to the car’s wheel caps which could do with a repaint
- Some rubbers - particularly around the ‘Frunk’ - are worn and cracked
- Internally, the car carries age-commensurate wear
- Modern Pioneer radio has been installed
- Pitting to the chromework is visible
- Door cards have some sagging
- Underneath, the car is in solid condition
- Some surface corrosion though nothing significant
