1971 Fiat 500L Jolly Evocation

Highlights

  • Rare UK-based Jolly recreation
  • Stylish and very presentable
  • Fun open top four seater
  • Recent maintenance & service work
  • Imported from Italy in 2016

The Appeal

No car is quite like the Fiat 500 Jolly. Gianni Agnelli’s simple idea for a harbourside yacht car spawned an army of specialists ready to convert Fiat’s humble city car into a summer sun worshipper.
Imported from Italy in 2016 by the seller, here is just such a car. It is rare to find Jollys in the UK, but with warmer weather approaching now seems like a great opportunity to discover what Italians already know.
This example is smartly finished in metallic red and is in good order. Recent maintenance and servicing work mean it is well set up for the summer and the buyer.

The History and Paperwork

  • First UK registered on 1st May 2016
  • 1971 car which is confirmed by chassis records
  • Began life as a 500 ‘L’ and retains its L specification vinyl dashboard
  • One registered keeper since importation to UK
  • DVLA records note a colour change in August 2018 from red to maroon
  • Likely this is an adjustment not a colour change as the car was converted to Jolly in Italy
  • Last MOT expired on 18th April 2017 with minor advisories and 16,214kms showing on test
  • Now showing 17,350kms so has covered few kms since
  • Vendor has records of history since he acquired the car

The Condition

  • Stylish burgundy metallic paintwork in generally good order
  • No visible corrosion to bodywork or underside
  • Paintwork has minor scuffs to arches as shown in photographs
  • Well proportioned Jolly conversion with correct chrome fittings
  • Appears to have been converted in Italy by Martinelli Cars
  • Unfortunately we have not been able to trace this restorer
  • Grand Prix 12in alloy wheels are stylish
  • They are in fair condition with some deterioration
  • Tyres show good condition and tread
  • Red and white striped roof in good condition
  • Black fabric interior with red pinstriping
  • 500 ‘L’ vinyl dashboard with Veglia strip speedometer
  • Three spoke ‘Luisi’ leather-rimmed sports steering wheel

The Mechanics

  • 499cc air cooled Fiat engine
  • 4spd manual gearbox
  • Vendor reports that it runs and drives very well
