The Appeal

Perhaps one of the most iconic cars to ever roll out of Hiratsuka's Nissan plant, the Fairlady Z is a sleek-lined, dependable sports car that - in many ways - marked the first truly major competition for the European-dominated sports car market. With top-notch build quality and a sonorous I6 packed under the bonnet, it's little wonder that the West went wild for this interloper.

This particular 1978 example, with its striking white exterior and black interior, captures the spirit of the era. This car has recently undergone a programme of work, including a complete replacement of all bushings and recent replacements of the front wheel tie rods and ball joints. With lovely straight bodywork and plenty of 70s character, we've no doubt it'll prove to make a proud addition to any enthusiast's fleet.

History and Paperwork

  • Built in 1978
  • Indicates 42,319 miles on a five-figure odometer
  • The odometer has reportedly been reset at some stage in the car's life
  • New parts purchased for maintenance will be supplied with the car
  • The car was partially resprayed in 2021
  • Some minor body work was completed in the same year

The Condition

  • Impressive, tightly-knit bodywork with no unusual panel gaps, dents or dings
  • White paintwork is largely in good condition with some marks and chips
  • Light discolouration to the rear, above the exhaust
  • Original Nissan wheels
  • The car's underside is solid with no signs of rust
  • Black interior with distinctly 70s styling
  • All instruments appear clean and legible
  • Wood-trimmed steering wheel
  • The air ventilation and heating system is currently not operational
  • Some signs of corrosion to the boot, though this looks to be surface level

The Mechanics

  •  2.8 L L28E I6 powerplant
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • The car drives well and is highly dependable
  • The front wheel tie rods and ball joints have been replaced
  • All bushings have been replaced
  • Noise in the rear left wheel, possibly due to a worn strut
  • Some vibration at high speeds (over 100 km/h)
