The Attractions
At the end of World War II, Willys rushed to find a way to keep its Jeep in production. The solution was the slightly modified CJ or 'Civilian Jeep', which introduced Americans to the pleasures of borderless mobility previously reserved for the armed forces.
Through seven generations, the CJ remained in production for over 40 years, gradually evolving without changing the fundamental aspects of the original formula. The latest CJ-7 of the 1980s introduced a longer wheelbase and improved road holding to further extend its ability to really go anywhere. It is therefore not surprising that it is a favourite among off-road enthusiasts, including those who compete in mud and rocky terrain.
For two short years, overseas buyers had the opportunity to add economy to the CJ-7's many attractions with a torque-rich Isuzu diesel version. This is one of those models, a CJ-7 with Renegade trim that is in very original condition after a complete engine and body restoration in 2022. Very attractive in its bronze colour scheme with eye-catching graphics, it is one of the most remarkable off-roaders we have seen in recent months.
