The Appeal

One of the most noteworthy and iconic Mercedes ever, the SL R107, produced from 1971 to 1989, is one of the highest expressions of the classic approach of the three-pointed star brand towards luxury cars. The R107 was built with great care and with the best materials, intended to last over time and distinguished by a discreet and unique design, which makes it always current and pleasant despite the passing of years and fashions.

Created to replace the famous and successful SL W113 "Pagoda", the R107 was completely different from the previous model, offering a completely new, extremely robust chassis, new suspensions and six and eight-cylinder engines from the contemporary high-end Mercedes sedans.

Over the years, the R107 received numerous improvements and evolutions, with the addition of new engines, a new interior similar to that of the flagship S-Class W126, an anti-lock braking system and, starting from 1985, a major update of the bodywork and suspensions.

Of the many engines available over the 18 years of production, the 5.6 litre V8 reserved for the American, Australian and Japanese markets and offered only from 1986 to 1989, is the most exclusive. With 227 hp and high torque, it allows this elegant roadster remarkable performance and offers an exciting and unmistakable sound.

This beautiful 1986 Mercedes 560SL is equipped with the sought-after top-of-the-line powertrain mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

The seller informs us that the engine and all the mechanics have been thoroughly overhauled and are efficient and well-tuned and that the fascinating bodywork has been completely restored and repainted in the original colour.

The high quality interior is in well preserved original condition, with intact surfaces and wood inserts in nice shape.

As befits a model at the top of the Mercedes range, it is equipped with the most modern safety systems available at the time, such as ABS and a driver's side airbag.

Equipped with alloy wheels and its original hard-top, this SL features interesting fittings reserved for the US market, such as the third brake light on the trunk and the four round front headlights.

Coming from the United States and registered in Italy in 2021, it comes with updated Italian registration documents and a Certificate of Historical and Collectible Relevance, is registered with the ASI (Italian Historic automotoclub) and is accompanied by its original US documents.

Rare, powerful and endowed with timeless elegance, this SL, with a recently restored bodywork, a refined and well-preserved interior and a powerful and exclusive well-tuned engine, represents an important opportunity to acquire a quality example of an increasingly sought-after and coveted model, with rising prices and bound to further increase in value like all vintage open-top Mercedes.
