Ford’s fightback started here. With Audi trouncing it on the rally stages and BMW stealing showroom sales, Henry needed a saloon car winner. That car was the evocatively named Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4.
The new car was built to compete on rally stages but found its true calling on suburban driveways. Where its rivals traded on their upmarket badges, the Cossie was all about no-nonsense, fuss-free performance and driver entertainment. All-wheel drive certainly delivered that. It helped that the Cosworth looked much like its Sierra siblings. All the better for traffic light surprises.
These cars were so much fun that original survivors in great condition are now very rare. Especially with tiny mileages. This beautiful Gloss Black ‘YBG’ red top RS Cosworth is a rare find - family owned from new until the current vendor took ownership of it in 2023, and with under 53,000 miles, it ticks all the boxes for the Fast Ford enthusiast.
