Highlights
- Later Tiptronic S model with enhanced functionality
- The latest air-cooled 911
- Well-equipped vehicle with electric sunroof
The Favourite
For many enthusiasts, Porsche has saved the best for last. The 993 was the last air-cooled 911, the car that bridged the gap between the classic and modern eras. Its sophisticated new rear suspension put an end to the car's legendary reputation for spinning out, giving buyers a more assured sports car, whichever model they chose.
From 1995, the intelligent Tiptronic automatic gearbox system was improved and renamed Tiptronic S. These cars were equipped with steering wheel-mounted buttons, improved shift speed and smoothness.
This beautiful 993 Carrera metallic benefits from this more recent gearbox. It's in excellent condition, factory spec, and is well equipped, including a sunroof and heated seats. For fans of these much sought-after later air-cooled 911s, this is a particularly compelling example.

The 993 may be a familiar shape, but Porsche claimed it shared only 20% of parts with its predecessors. The profile has been cleverly updated with elegantly integrated bumpers and a wider, more purposeful stance with wider wheel arches.
This car looks particularly good in metallic, a paint job in very good condition to match the condition of the panels. It sits on optional factory five-spoke wheels that are equally well maintained and fitted with quality Dunlop tyres.
Inside, the black interior shows virtually no sign of the car's 29 years. The high specification includes an electric sunroof and front seats, which are also heated.
Mechanical
- 3.6-litre air-cooled six-cylinder flat engine
- Tiptronic S four-speed automatic transmission
- Early Tiptronic S with faster, smoother gearshift operation
Although some of the 993's mechanicals have been carried over from previous versions, the big change has been the suspension configuration. The rear of the car has been fundamentally redesigned to offer a less nervous and more predictable experience. This particularly benefited buyers of the 2WD version, like this one, which was now much softer than previous versions. The set-up was so good that it continued virtually unchanged for the 996.
This car also has the Tiptronic gearbox, a four-speed automatic that allows sequential shift options. An evolution of this system, PDK, is now the preferred choice of modern buyers. This car is an early adopter of the revised Tiptronic S system, which added steering wheel controls and improved shift responsiveness to the system's dynamic mix.
The car appears to be in excellent mechanical health and is being sold by a highly respected classic Porsche specialist. We have no reports of mechanical or other problems.
