The Appeal

It's undeniable that the Japanese make quite the off-roader. The Shogun name was penned after the commanders of Feudal Japan, and it certainly carried a similar level of grit and determination. Built as a go-anywhere, do-anything car, these hefty 4x4s carried bulletproof powerplants and impressive suspension systems that perfectly fit the brief while still providing plenty of creature comforts.

This 1998 long-wheelbase model is the desirable top-of-the-line GLS specification, powered by the robust 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It's a particularly notable example for its remarkable originality and careful ownership history, having been with just two registered keepers since new, with the previous owner cherishing it for 23 years. Unlike many Shoguns that have been heavily modified or used for serious off-roading, this example has been preserved in its original condition and maintained to a good standard throughout its life.
