The Renault Sport Spider was born of a simple idea: a track-focused flagship model that would herald the arrival of the Renault brand as a serious sports brand.
The new car was clean and simple. It took the engine from the Clio Williams and placed it in a central rear position in an aluminium chassis. The styling was clearly influenced by track cars and made few concessions to comfort... especially if you opted for one of the SV 'saute-vent' models which did without a windscreen. Only 438 of these were built in left-hand drive, and their uncompromising approach makes them sought after by collectors.
This SV is finished in the characteristic Sirius Yellow of the Spider. This is a very low mileage car that has never been used on the track and has been in the hands of its enthusiast vendor for half its life. With a clean history and continuous maintenance since new, this is an excellent example of one of France's most exciting modern classic sports cars. The vehicle on offer here is even more unique in that a number of components have been modified to improve its road holding. In 2016, the original 5-speed gearbox was prepared with the addition of a 6-speed and a self-locking differential (a bill of over €6,000 attests to the preparation carried out by a professional). The braking system has also been optimised. Via a knob located next to the pedal adjustment on the steering column, it is now possible to manually distribute the braking intensity between the front and rear axles. What we have here is a unique preparation of an already exceptional original model!
