The Appeal
The Golf may have always grabbed the GTI-related headlines, but in recent years the smaller Polo has been quietly nibbling at its heels. That is thanks in no small part to the Mk5, which introduced tarmac-shredding, near-200bhp performance, all in a light, nimble shell reminiscent of the first Volkswagen GTI.
In 2014 the Mk5 GTI got a facelift and a switch to the 185bhp 1.8litre TSI turbocharged engine. Mated with the 6spd manual, torque was also a very healthy 236lbft, significantly more than the DSG-equipped version.
All of which makes later manual gearbox Mk5 Polo GTIs like this one particularly appealing. It has had just one registered keeper to November 2023 and comes with full service history and a long, advisory-free MOT. Finished, of course, in hot hatch Flash Red it is a well specified example of this entertaining yet practical five door, four seater.
