This 1953 Sunbeam Alpine, like many British sports cars of the period, was originally exported to the United States and only returned to the UK in the 1980s when it was restored and used extensively both here and for European touring.
Clearly the car lived in a dry state while in the USA , as the body is in exceptionally good rust free condition. Similarly the substantial chassis is in very good condition with no corrosion in any of the chassis outriggers.
Finished in metallic Silver Mist, the paintwork presents well although there is some wear and tear and age related marks.
The interior is in good order and has been enhanced by careful cleaning. The hood is in good working order albeit rather faded.
The brightwork is generally good although there is some light pitting to the rear bumper.
Mechanically, the car is in good shape. The engine starts well and sounds very healthy. On the road the car drives well and benefits from the fitment of a four speed gearbox with floor change and overdrive on third and top, making the Sunbeam a most capable touring car.
The brakes have just been overhauled with new pistons all round and new shoes on the front. New tyres have been fitted and the water pump rebuilt.
All the instruments are working with the exception of the temperature gauge which requires a new sender unit.
With their period rallying pedigree, these Sunbeam Alpines are rightly prized for their ruggedness and extensive touring capability. Spare parts availability is good and there is the benefit of an enthusiastic owners club.
This very sound example is eminently usable as it is or can be improved over time as the new owner might wish.
