The Appeal

In its discreet and modest way, the Fiat 1100 was fundamental, even innovative. It was the company's first car with a monocoque structure and introduced a very classic three-box style that characterised Fiat's family saloons for decades.

The first cars featured charming details such as double dials with cream-coloured surrounds, an elegant grille and front doors that opened upwind. The Tipo B was the most luxurious version, with a front bench seat and more upmarket trim.

This April 1956 example left the factory shortly before the arrival of the new and revised 103 E, thus maintaining the purity of the early cars. Superbly restored in discreet dark blue and with pleasing trim adhering to the original, it is a very attractive and understated example of a very usable 1950s classic. The stamped registration booklet adds considerable character and makes it even more attractive.

History and Documentation

• First registration on 26 April 1956 according to the registration documents supplied with the car

The Condition

• Elaborate deep dark blue paintwork with dark blue fabric interior, all in very good condition
• Previously restored paintwork in good condition, showing only slight signs of deterioration highlighted in the photographs
• Well-preserved chrome with slight oxidation marks on the underside of the rear bumper
• Solid bodywork with correct panel assembly and no visible chips or dents
• Underbody looks good with solid construction and no problems to report
• Car matches correct factory specification, including steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and white painted centre part
• Headlights in good condition, complete and seemingly undamaged, with no fogging or cracks
• Beautiful interior with pleasing factory finish, including cream bakelite steering wheel and dial frames
• Very well maintained interior, which may have been reupholstered to a high standard
• B-type interior with front bench seat
• Door and headlining in good condition
• Switches, levers, handles and door controls complete, only the driver's window crank seems to be missing
• Vintage VOXSON rear blind and radio
