The Appeal
The later Mk2 tends to get the plaudits for inventing the sporting saloon, but that accolade really belongs to its predecessor, the retrospectively-named Mk1. In 3.4L guise, Mike Hawthorn and Stirling Moss regularly scraped the door handles as they threw William Lyons’ sculptural saloon around circuits, while elsewhere Ivor Bueb and the Equippe Endeavour 3.4L dominated the 1959 season of the British Saloon Car Championship.
Here is a chance to savour all that with a highly original 1959 car in the same Dove Grey as Tommy Sopwith’s famous Equipe Endeavour cars. The paint is mated with red leather and matching carpets. DVLA records indicate this is a one-keeper car, though that hasn’t been verified. The vendor tells us the current keeper is a Jaguar enthusiast.
The car is reported to be in solid, running condition, although there is obvious scope for the buyer to improve it. We’re told the engine was rebuilt in the mid 80s, since when it has covered only 2,000 miles.
For the right Jaguar enthusiast, this is a proper find. We wish it well on its new adventures.
