The Appeal

Released in 1961, as the third evolution of the 6/99. These were the final ‘big Wolseleys’, and boasted an impressive level of Pininfarina styling. Of course, much like its predecessors were Morris derivatives, the 6/110 was a derivative model - this time, conceived as a luxurious variant of the Austin A99 Westminster. Regardless of that identity, luxurious it was, and the BMC managed to ship out a very respectable 24,101 cars. 
This example is an older restoration, and has been very well cared for with plenty of mechanical attention. With its luxurious interior and attractive two-tone paintwork, it’s sure to make for a very affable post-war classic. 

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in Nottingham in 1966
  • Restored from 1982 to 19867
  • Imported to Ireland in 2017
  • The DVLA states that as a previously registered UK car, no taxes will be necessary upon re-registration
  • Awarded a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate in 1988

The Interior

  • Impressive period interior in green leather with walnut dashboard
  • Dash was replaced in 2000 due to cracked lacquer 
  • Seats also given a treatment kit in 2000
  • Seats and door cards are nicely presented with only light patina and creasing
  • Dashboard has light wear, with original period instruments that are in good order
  • Dials are clean and well-presented with no issues
  • Light patina to the chrome trims around the switches
  • Steering wheel is well-presented with Wolseley branding
  • No reports of any faults or technical issues to the interior options
  • Carpets are showing some wear, commensurate with age 
  • Headlining appears to be in good order with no major issues
  • Modern speakers are mounted on the rear shelf
  • Boot is in good order and is well-kept

The Exterior 

  • Impressive Connaught and Porcelain Green two-tone paintwork
  • Older restoration, still mostly in good order
  • Chromework is largely original with some patina
  • A small bubble of corrosion under the pant is reported by the vendor on the front-left wing
  • Some light chips and paint loss elsewhere on the car
  • Glasswork and lenses are in good order with no issues
  • A part of the branding - the Mk2 badge, specifically - is missing from the rear of the car
  • All other branding is intact and well-presented 
  • Car is sitting on Wolseley branded wheels, fitted in 2000
  • Fitted with a full set of Maxxis tyres that look in near-new condition
  • Car carries some light corrosion to the underside of the car

The Mechanics 

  • Powered by a 2.9L C-Series I6 Engine
  • 3-speed automatic transmission
  • During 1980s restoration, the car was given:
    • New front wings
    • New outriggers
    • New sills
    • Inner wing repairs
    • Wheel arch repairs
    • New brake discs and hoses
    • New calliper kits
    • New pads and shoes
    • New bumpers
    • New headlight rims
    • New fuel pump
    • Complete engine rebuild
  • In 2000 the car was fitted with:
    • New rear road springs and bushes
    • New hub caps
    • Repairs to the front wings
    • Refreshment of the Porcelain Green paintwork

    • New starter motor
    • New rear wheel brake cylinders
    • New brake hoses
  • Car is reportedly in good running order with no reported leaks, knocks or smoke
  • Automatic gearbox is reportedly working well with a smooth gearchange
  • The vendor reports that the car starts first time with no problems

Summary

A nicely-kept, well-running post-war classic, this is an interesting spot of British history, with impressive two-tone paintwork and Anglo-Italian styling.
