The Appeal
Before it became synonymous on cars with ‘Electric,’ the letter ‘E’ meant Executive and in Ford’s world, Executive meant luxury, posh and top of the tree. So it was with the Cortina 1600E, whose wood-lined cabin added a taste of the Boardroom for those who hadn’t quite reached those giddy heights.
Ford clearly saw Executive status as a rather racy experience, because the 1600E was based on the Cortina GT, with added wood and comfort. It delivered a car that now has a serious cult following amongst saloon car fanatics.
This gorgeous Mink Blue ‘70 model shows just how good the result of this blend was. It is in very good condition following an older restoration around 20 years ago. It retains its many ‘E’ features from badging to bumper over-riders and auxiliary driving lights, and of course, an interior trimmed in real wood. Under the bonnet is Ford’s fizzy ‘Kent’ 1.6L engine.
The car is said to have been regularly serviced and maintained and to be in very good running order. The front suspension mounts have been recently replaced. It will be sold with the added reassurance of a new voluntary MOT. The last test ran to July 2025 and had no advisories.
The vendor says:
“It drives very well along with modern traffic, no silly gadgets just simple motoring. A very tidy-looking car in blue mink. Will have new MOT on sale.”
