The Appeal
The Stag is one of the British motor industry’s great lost hopes. It should have sold better, but that rarity only adds to their appeal today. Latinate styling, practical four-seat layout, decent comfort and the sort of character its German rivals can only dream of, all make a good Stag well worth seeking out.
This pretty burgundy metallic 1973 car received a £23,000 professional restoration in 2016 that the seller’s late husband oversaw. That it continues to present so well today, looking especially good with its Minilites and red roof, is due to the sparing use and careful storage in a dry, dehumidified garage.
The work covered the body, paint, interior and mechanicals, including a full rebuild of the manual overdrive gearbox. It is now fitted with a dependable Ford 3L V6 engine.
Buyers should note that it has been little used since 2022. But we are told that it runs well, but would benefit from adjusting the clutch. This is a handsome example of one of Michelotti’s styling gems.
The vendor says:
“It's a beautiful example of a Stag, and it has been immaculately cared for since my husband Steve purchased it. I haven't driven it myself, but following the replacement of the engine Steve said it was a joy to drive.”
