The Appeal


Torquey, muscular and loaded with character, the TR6 was one of those last bastions of the great British sports car. Much of the vehicle was taken directly from its predecessors - but with a Karmann body that offered a square-jawed, movie-star profile. It's one of the best all-round roadsters you can buy without stepping down to a four-pot!

Good examples are highly in demand. The traditional British roadster is very much a foundation of the classic car market, and the TR6 offered plenty of evolution without stepping away from those simple core values that kept the market braying for more. The TR6 was in production for 8 years, with over 80,000 of the nearly 92,000 built travelling abroad.

 This '73 car has been comprehensively restored in the past, including a comparatively recent engine overhaul. It's really quite the prospect, and we're expecting plenty of interest for it. This may be one of brightest, well-presented examples we've seen recently!

History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1973
  • Purchased in 1980 from the third previous registered keeper
  • Replacement ex-works chassis fitted in 1992
  • Major renovation undertaken in 2006/7, including some body panels and full respray
  • The vendor notes they've taken a 'no expense spared' approach to the car's maintenance 
  • Always garaged
  • Engine overhaul carried out 'about three years ago'
  • Car has been very little used since the engine overhaul
  • Genuine mileage of 98,352, reportedly backed by the paperwork file 
  • MOT exempt and last tested in 2018

The Mechanics

  • 2.5-litre straight-six engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive on 3 and 4
    • Reprofiled camshaft fitted
    • Larger throttle body from 150BHP variant installed
    • Sports manifold fitted
  • The vendor notes that the car's output 'should be close to 150 BHP'
  • Electronic ignition fitted
  • Hydraulic power steering installed
  • All parts needed to revert this, however,  are retained
  • Runs on standard shocks and springs
  • The vendor reports that the car drives well with no mechanical issues
