The Appeal
A radical and brave move by Rover in 1963 did much to elevate the brand as a maker of innovative forward-looking cars while retaining the traditional Rover virtues of style and comfort. Cleverly marketed at a new generation of executives, this all-new design utilised a structure on which every panel could be bolted on. Created with both safety and technical advances in mind, its innovative suspension design and provision for the possibility to run on a gas turbine engine, the P6 in the end was launched with an all-new heron-head inline OHC four-cylinder engine. With fuel economy in mind, the arrival of the two-litre executive car had arrived.
By the time this 1975 series II 2200 SC model was registered, the P6 still held an appeal, a dignified design, with well-regarded road-holding, the 2200 model offered improved torque and a strengthened gearbox. With just 51,435 miles, this solid Monza red example with a neatly presented sandalwood leather interior, has seen £1500 worth of welding and has been subjected to a regular regime of servicing and maintenance.

The Exterior
- Structurally, the baseframe appears to be good, with inner wings and floor pan looking intact
- Previous body repair is believed to have been carried out to D posts and rear suspension mounts
- Panel fit and gaps are of an acceptable standard, with all doors opening and closing with ease
- A handful of minor corrosion imperfections and marks were observed on the wings
- Both front and rear wings have seen repairs in the last 5 years
- Monza red paint finish has decent coverage, with mild signs of swirls and a blister on the bonnet
- The colour match is generally positive
- Stone chip-protected front valance
- Sills show evidence of work in the recent past
- All correct exterior trim including egg-crate grill
- Very good chrome
- Glass intact with decent seals
- Lights and lenses in good shape, mild condensation noted on rear lenses
- Front tyres are less than 5 years old, and rear ones have plenty of life in them
The Mechanics
- Larger displacement 2.2-litre model
- The 4-speed gearbox engages gears without obstruction
- The engine is well presented with decent ancillaries and hoses
- Starts first time with very little smoke
- Cruises smoothly, with no reports of the engine missing a beat
- Oil pressure is said to be stable
- Very comfortable and handles sweetly
- Travelled to Germany in the last 5 years with no outstanding issues

- Rear bump stops and rubbers were renewed in 2018
- Steering ball joints were renewed, front brake calipers resealed, and brake pads and lines all renewed in 2017

There is no doubt that this car has seen successive attention and renovation with each owner, and it appears that they all have felt duty-bound to help complement that low documented mileage.
