The Appeal

The TR7 is the last of a truly illustrious line of classic British sports cars and one that brought together the best of it. It is comfortable, practical and delivers enough performance to make everyday driving fun.
Those qualities, plus the cutting edge wedge styling, are much better appreciated now than when these cars were new. As a distinctive and very usable weekend joy machine the convertible is hard to beat. 
It all started here, with this particular car. It was one of the 22 pre-production convertibles built for the launch in February 1980 at Woburn Abbey. It is one of the five white cars built for the event. 
The scene is set for a historically significant example of these increasingly beloved cars. Add in a thorough, professional restoration and very low mileage and you have a car whose condition is a match for the provenance. 
This TR7 is finished in factory correct Leyland White and was supplied with the desirable 5spd gearbox. The only deviations from factory standard are ones that will appeal to enthusiasts - factory alloy wheels, anti dive front suspension, stainless steel 4 branch exhaust manifold/exhaust system.
Whether you’re here for the interesting provenance or because you love good two seater convertibles, this well kept TR7 looks very tempting.

History and Paperwork

  • First DVLA registered 2nd January 1980
  • Seven registered keepers of which British Leyland was the first 
  • BMIHT certificate confirms provenance and specification 
  • Current keeper since March 2023 
  • 22 cars were produced for the convertible launch in February 1980 
  • Vendor reports that this is a pre-production car and one of five white ones out of the 22
  • All the pre-production cars were originally registered by British Leyland starting with JRW and this one was JRW 590V
  • Full history from new including BMIHT certificate 
  • DVLA log of former keepers and some service history
  • Mileage of 43,990 believed to be genuine according to seller 
  • Taken off the road in 2006 and supported by historical documentation including SORN
  • Restoration/recommissioning commenced in 2018 and put back on the road in 2021
  • Large history file with restoration invoices for parts alone in excess of £3,500
  • Memory stick showing the restoration process
  • Original wallet with owner's handbook, service book and radio manual
  • Upgraded with factory alloys, anti dive front suspension and stainless steel exhaust
  • MOT, tax and ULEZ exempt by age 

The Condition

  • Fully resprayed in original colour of Leyland White during the restoration
  • Paintwork well kept with correct factory decals all in good condition 
  • Body panels reported to be free of dents, with good shut lines and no visible corrosion
  • Vendor advises that it appears to have never had any structural welding
  • He also reports that the chassis, floors and sills are original 
  • The underside is well protected having been fully waxoyled
  • Factory correct optional alloy wheels in good condition with apparently unused spare
  • New tyres fitted in the last 3,000 miles
  • Bumpers, glass and seals are in good order
  • Condition of seats, door cards, carpets and dashboard all in keeping with the low mileage
  • Original complete tool bag present
  • New windscreen was fitted during the restoration
  • Hood replaced during the restoration and operates correctly
  • Hood cover and a full length tonneau cover included
  • Very original interior in remarkable state of preservation 
  • Well detailed cabin including classic checkered seat trims
