The Appeal

The Renault Sport name was first established in 1976, but it wasn't until the 90s that it was badged onto a production car, which took the form of the low-done, slicked-back Spider. Manufactured by the largely vacant Alpine factory, it smashed through what many considered the Renault image. It was bold, brash and sporty - and effectively set up the future for the Renault Sports image.

Lightweight aluminium and plastic composite made the Spider a real high-octane speed machine, equally primed for the racetrack as it was for the road. These diminutive little sports cars are very much built for one thing and one thing alone - adrenaline - and while the Spider may have suffered compared to competition from Lotus and that ilk, it's hard to deny the high-speed French roadster was a remarkably evocative drive.

This particular example was previously a UK market car, and is now based in Sweden - as it has been since 2020. It's recently been resprayed in QNC Renaultsport white and gunmetal grey, comprehensively rebuilt and extensively modified, all of which has been catalogued in thousands of photographs and videos. Only 1,640 of these cars were ever built, and coming upon a solid, fine example like this is a rare opportunity.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered in 1997

  • Original Recaro Pole Position vinyl seats with custom lowered cushion (original, unmarked cushions included)
  • Original split cabin cover included in very good condition (for driving in damp conditions)
  • SPA Digital speedo

  • All badges replaced with lightweight custom vinyl items
