This 1951 80 inch 2 litre Series 1 has a great story to tell?.
Purchased in 2011 at the Goodwood Revival Sale by Marshbrook Ltd, Chelsea, London, where one of the three company directors was none other than Eric Clapton. In November of that same year, it was sent to Dunsfold Landrovers for a complete engine rebuild and safety checks.
Invoices in the file show that new +20 pistons and a reground crank, along with new cam and follower. Another notable mention is unleaded valves! The steering was crack tested and found to be unsafe, so a replacement steering box was fitted. The rest of the steering also serviced, finally fitting new front and rear road springs. This was completed at 89687 miles.
In 2004, the body had been removed from the chassis and everything refreshed and repainted, and is as she is presented today. A re-wire with period style fabric covered wiring, was also completed at the same time.
With these works completed the next owner confidently purchased and shipped the car to Canada in 2012. Our client purchased the car in 2015 whilst also living in Canada, repatriating the car to England in 2019. Recently he noticed that only 900 miles had been added to the odometer during his ownership, and for that reason alone the car is offered for sale. Routine servicing has been completed during the vendor?s time and new tyres were fitted in 2021
Originally sold by PH & AH Bloomer of Grimsby, Lincolnshire, on registration CJV74, finished in blue including the current 2 litre engine. When the car returned to the UK the DVLA issued registration number 159YUK, as they had sold CJV74! Information about the intervening years from 1951 to 2004 are non-existent, but given the sound nature of the original chassis, she must have been a sheltered and loved for fifty years.
Presented ready for use, a sound example of the Landrover with some interesting history, having only covered 90602miles.
